A study by the Game Conservancy Trust in association with the Centre for Wildlife Assessment and Conservation has found that woodland managed by hunts is diverse and thriving.
The scientific study revealed there were seven times more butterfly species and four more plant species than in unmanaged areas.
The full findings will be reported in the journal, Biodiversity and Conservation. Hunts manage more than 24,000 hectares of woodland across England and Wales. Work carried out by the hunts include tree planting, ride clearance, hedge laying, scrub management and the conservation of grassland and headlands.
